The ground breaking ceremony for the proposed 600000 tonnes a year continuous annealing & processing line (CAPL) project was held at Jamshedpur on 25 April 2011. The project, to be located at the Tata Steel Works premises will be implemented by a 51 per cent joint venture of Tata Steel with Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC).
The ground breaking ceremony follows the joint venture agreement signed between TATA Steel and Nippon Steel in January 2011 to setup India’s first CAPL for the production of automotive cold rolled steels at Jamshedpur.
The Rs 2,300-crore CAPL project will manufacture high-grade cold-rolled steel sheet for the automobile industry. The venture will use Tata Steel produce at feedstock for the plant. This project will not only set benchmarks in product quality but also in new product development and customer service.
This facility will also address the growing localization needs of Indian automotive customers for high grade cold rolled steel sheet and further contribute to expansion of the Indian automobile industry.
