State Government of Haryana on 27 February 2015 announced its decision to increase the cash reward under the Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme from 50000 rupees to 1 lakh rupees.
The reward was constituted under Rule 16 of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The reward money would be provided through bank accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY). The government also asked the officers to work on how to make the process of transferring reward money at the earliest to avoid any delay.
This decision to increase the cash reward under the inter-caste marriage scheme was made at a meeting of the state level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at Chandigarh.
Other decisions made during the meet include
• Police Department directed to ensure wide publicity of HARSAMAY, a citizen portal of the Haryana Police, where anyone can register a complaint any time.
• Government also asked officials of the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Department to prepare schemes for ameliorating the status of people belonging to weaker sections of the society by way of education, scholarships, skill development and others.
