India's middle-distance runner Ghamanda Ram won silver in 800m in the opening leg of the Asian Grand Prix meet in the Chinese city of Jiaxiang on 22 May 2011. He was pipped at the post by Iran's Sadjad Moradi, who clocked 1:50.47 and won gold. Ghamanda clocked 1:50.69. Chinese runner Yang Xiaofei took the bronze in 1:50.84, while Sajeesh Joseph, the second Indian in the race, finished fifth in 1:51.62.
India's second medal came in women's discus throw where Seema Antil clinched bronze with a throw of 49.77m.
India’s jumper, Mayookha Johny narrowly missed a podium finish in women triple jump. In this category the gold and silver was won by the Chinese- Li Yanmei and Xie Limei respectively. Uzbekistan's Aleksandra Kotlyarova took home the bronze.
