International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
Theme of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking highlights that justice and health go together when it comes to addressing drug problems.
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2019 on June 26, 2019. This day is against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It is also known as World Drug Day. Observance of the day is an important initiative to tackle drug abuse and trafficking.
Theme: Health for Justice. Justice for Health
The theme of this initiative for 2019 is "Health for justice, justice for health." This year's theme highlights that justice and health are two sides of the same coin when it comes to addressing drug problems. UNODC encourages individuals, non-profit organizations, the private sector and Member States to get involved in its social media campaign to mark this day and invites them to draw on the resources provided in the social media campaign package.
About International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
• By resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
• Supported each year by individuals, communities and various organizations all over the world, this global observance aims to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society.
• United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime will also launch the 2019 World Drug Report at the United Nations Secretariat in New York.
Drug Abuse and addiction
Drug abuse occurs when one use legal or illegal substance in a way that they aren't meant to be used. It might be taken much more than a regular dose of pills that a prescribed. Or worse, overusing pills that aren't even prescribed to use can be harmful. Drug abuse is done when you start feeling good doing it, or at ease, or you want to avoid reality. Unless you are addicted, you are able to take control on these unhealthy habits or get rid of them altogether.
