The four red Kangaroos brought to Alipore Zoological Garden after a gap of 35 years from an animal park in the Czech Republic. Kangaroos were last seen at the zoo in August 1976.
Red kangaroos (Macropus rufus) are the largest known marsupials. It has long and powerful hind legs, feet and tails, and short forelimbs. It can leap up to nine metres. The fur of Kangaroos is reddish brown and they have large ears. Red Kangaroos are mostly nocturnal and live in small groups.
