President Ram Nath Kovind presents Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award to Bindeshwar Pathak
President Ram Nath Kovind on 10 October 2017 presented 18th Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Academics and Management  to Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak.

Bindeshwar Pathak has contributed immensely in the direction of getting rid of the practice of manual scavenging. Mayor of New York had declared 14 April 2016 as the ‘Dr Bindeshwar Pathak International Day’ keeping in mind this contribution made by Pathak.

Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak is the founder of Sulabh International and has developed and implemented a low cost and appropriate toilet technology popularly known as the Sulabh Shauchalaya system.

India water Week 2017 inaugurated
President Ram Nath Kovind on 10 October 2017 inaugurated India Water Week-2017 in New Delhi. Around 1500 delegates from India and 13 other countries are attending this five day international event. The theme of India Water Week 2017 is “Water and Energy for Inclusive Growth”.

On the occasion, Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari announced that 285 new irrigation projects will be taken up by next year to provide irrigation for 1 crore 88 lakh hectare of land.

Considering that inter linking of rivers is very important to save people from floods and droughts, 30 river linking projects have already been approved including Ken- Betwa, Par- Tapi Narmada and Daman Ganga Pinjal.

Nisha Desai Biswal appointed as President of USIBC
Nisha Desai Biswal, former Indian-American assistant secretary of South and Central Asia, was on 10 October 2017 appointed as the President of US India Business Council (USIBC).

As Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs in the US Department of State from 2013 to 2017, Biswal oversaw the US-India strategic partnership during a period of unprecedented cooperation including launching of US-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue.

She was awarded the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award by the Indian President in January 2017. She previously served as the Assistant Administrator for Asia at the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
