The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) on 22 February 2012 sanctioned a 423 crore rupees loan assistance to the Gujarat government under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund for an irrigation project in the water scarce district of Sabarkantha.
The project envisages lifting water from the Narmada Main Canal by pipelines to three major reservoirs of state named Watrak, Mazam and Meshwo which have a canal network to irrigate 22397 hactare of land in Sabarkantha. The irrigation project is expected to be finished by 31 December 2015.
With the latest loan sanction of 423 crore rupees , the collective assistance to the Gujarat government for rural infrastructure development in the State by NABARD swelled to 10877 crore rupees, against which 7661 crore rupees has been released up to March 21 2012.
