Governor Kamla Beniwal administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at Sardar Patel Stadium at Ahmedabad. Seven cabinet Ministers and nine Ministers of State also took oath. 

Cabinet Ministers, who took oath along with Narendra Modi include Anandiben Patel, Saurabh Patel, Bhupendra Singh Chudasama, Ramanlal Vora, Nitin Patel, Babu Bokhiriya and Ganpat Vasava. Minister of State who took oath are Vasuben Trivedi, Pradip Singh Jadeja, Parbat Patel, Nanu Vanani, Rajanikant Patel, Liladhar Waghela, Govind Patel, Jayanti Kavadiya and Parsottam Solanki.

Narendra Mdoi was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Gujrat for the first time on 7 October 2001. He was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Gujrat for the second time on 22 December 2002. He was born in September 1950 at Vadnagar, a small town in Mehsana district of North Gujarat.
