The National Investigating Agency (NIA) on 16 February 2011 filed a charge-sheet against 24 accused in the case relating to the recruitment of youths in 2006 from Kerala for anti-national activities in Kashmir. One of the accused, Abdul Jaleel together with other accused, who had links with terrorist organisations, recruited youths for training in Pakistan and thereby assisted the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for waging war against the Union government. The investigation following the surfacing of the case revealed that funds were transferred from abroad to the accused for recruiting Kerala youths. The recruited youths were sent to Jammu and Kashmir where they received training in ‘jihad' from operatives of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Four out of the 24 accused died in an encounter with Indian security forces. The charge sheet filed by NIA established the role of Wali alias Abdul Azeez alias Rashid Abdulla alias Abu Rehan of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and a LeT Commander in the recruitment of the Kerela youths for anti-nation activities.
