The Andhra Pradesh Government in April 2010 decided not to increase the price of the Bt cottonseeds in the State. The spiralling cost of production led the government to ask seed manufacturers to increase remuneration for seed growers. As the farmers suffered in both kharif and rabi seasons they are in no position to bear any extra burden. The decision would hurt Monsanto Company’s interests as it means lower trait value.
