ONGC won their maiden Nehru Cup title by defeating Punjab National Bank 1-0 at the Dhyanchand Stadium in New Delhi on 25 November 2011.
ONGC got the winning goal in the 25th minute through Bikash Toppo off Mandeep Antil’s pass. After the first goal. However they failed to score further in the first half due to lack of co-ordination and bad finishing. The teams went into the half time with ONGC in the lead. In the next half ONGC adopt a defensive mode of play. PNB received several oppoprtunities but failed to score.
ONGC who are also one of the sponsors of the tournaments collected a prize money of Rs 250000, while PNB took home half the amount.
Air India on the other hand defeated Bharat Petroleum 2-0 to finish as the second runners up in the Nehru Cup tournament.
