During the meeting of the home secretaries of India and Pakistan on 28-29 March 2011 in New Delhi, Pakistan agreed to India’s request to allow an Indian probe commission to visit the former in connection with the 26/11 attacks probe. Pakistan stated that the voice samples of the alleged plotters could be provided to India only if the Lahore High Court sets aside the decision of lower court rejecting the plea in this regard.
Another important decision taken during the meet was to establish a hotline between Islamabad and New Delhi. The two sides also decided to revive the Indo-Pak Judicial Commission.
During the meet India raised the issue of handing over of Dawood Ibrahim, Lashkar-e-Toiba founder Hafiz Saeed’s anti-India statements whereas Pakistan raised the issue of Balochistan.
India and Pakistan issued a joint statement after the secretarial level meet that both sides should work on revising the bilateral visa agreement. It was also proposed in the joint statement to relax norms for journalists, senior citizen, businessmen and patients.
The main points of India-Pakistan joint statement are as following:
- Hotline between the Home Secretary of India and Pakistan Interior Secretary.
- Release of civilians and fishermen who have completed their sentence by 15 April.
- CBI and Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will meet on human trafficking, cyber crime and counterfeit currency.
- Pakistan agreed on a commission from India on 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai.
- Each side shared information on the Mumbai terrorist attacks and Samjhauta Express probes.
- To fight terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
