Pakistan successfully tested the nuclear-capable Hatf-II ballistic missile on 15 February 2013. This was the second test of missile system in just four days by Pakistan. The test was conducted in order to evaluate the capabilities of Strategic Forces.
Main features related to Hatf-II ballistic missile:
• Hatf-II ballistic missile is also known as Abdali short range surface-to-surface ballistic missile.
• Hatf-II is capable of carrying nuclear or conventional warheads with precision and high accuracy.
• Hatf-II has a range of 180 km.
It is important to note that earlier on 11 February 2013; Pakistan had tested the Hatf-IX tactical missile that had a range of 60 km and was nuclear-capable. Hatf-IX missile, according to the analysts, is aimed at preventing the Cold Start military doctrine of India.
