A parliamentary standing committee on Transport, Tourism & Culture recently recommended the withdrawal of the Road Safety and Traffic Management Board Bill introduced in the Lok Sabha on 04 May, 2010. The President of the committee submitted a report to the Vice-President Hamid Ansari on 21 July 2010 mentioning that there should be comprehensive regulation that encompasses road safety relating to all roads. The bill in the present form provides for the establishment of a National Road Safety and Traffic Management Board for facilitating better regulation of traffic and improved safety standards in highway design and construction alone. Also the board's advisory role would be ineffective.
