As per VCCEdge data, PE investors in February 2012 offloaded stakes worth $751.45 million across eight open market transactions. PE investors in February 2012 encashed investments worth $826 million in almost 16 deals.
The month of February 2012 registered the maximum private equity exits in the past 12 months. The February figures thus provided a much-needed relief to the PE industry that was found struggling with muted exits, low internal rate of returns and volatile investment climate.
The benchmark Sensex rose to almost 15 per cent in 2012 and stayed above 17300 points throughout February. It had reached a seven-month high of 18428.61 points on 21 February 2012.
The banking and financial services sector (BFSI) witnessed maximum activity in February 2012. the biggest exit for the month was marked by Temasek Holdings Advisors who cashed out of ICICI Bank for $298 million. Carlyle Asia Partners exited Housing Development Finance Corporation for $270.38 million. Warburg Pincus India exited Kotak Mahindra Bank for $171.18 million marking another significant banking exit seen during the month.
