Railway Budget 2011-12: Provisions for J&K & North-east

The Railway Budget 2011 provided for Bridge Factory in J&K and proposed to set up diesel locomotive centre in Manipur.

Mamata Banerjee presented the Railway Budget 2011 in the Lok Sabha on 25 February 2011. In the Railway Budget 2011 The Railway Minister dedicated an industry to the people of Jammu & Kashmir. The budget also included provisions for the North-east to bring about development of the region. The budgetary provisions for J&K and North-east are as follows:

 

  • Highlighting the prestigious Jammu-Kashmir Rail Link project that involves a large number of bridges, the Railway Budget 2011 proposed to dedicate an industry to the people of Jammu & Kashmir. The budget proposed to set up Bridge Factory in J&K. This industry will help in developing ancillary industries leading to employment generation in the J&K region.

  • The Railway Budget 2011 proposed to set up a state-of-the-art Institute for Tunnel and Bridge Engineering at Jammu.
  • Given that North-east is the priority area and receives government’s full support, the budget announced that Imphal, the capital of Manipur will be soon connected to the railway network. The budget proposed to set up a diesel locomotive centre in Manipur.
