Senegal President Macky Sall on 4 July 2014 sacked Prime Minister Ms Aminata Toure. She was sacked due to her failure to win a seat from Dakar in the 2014 local elections.
Aminata Toure, 51, headed the Alliance for the Republic (APR) was appointed as Prime Minister in September 2013. Earlier she was a Justice Minister.
Senegal is West African country and seen as a beacon of democracy in West Africa. It is the only country never to have had a military coup in the West African region.
Senegal is a republic with Presidential form of government. The President is elected for a five year term since 2001. Earlier the term was seven years. The President is responsible for appointing local administrators who are responsible to him.
