The Telecom Dispute Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) on 23 February 2012 directed the Union Government to issue broadband licence to Qualcomm within a week.
Qualcomm on 22 February 2012 had made an offer to the Telecom Ministry to pay Rupees 410 crore dues on behalf of its joint venture partner Tulip Telecom on the condition that the Government will allot it the licence and spectrum for wireless broadband services.
The TDSAT Bench, headed by the Chairman, Mr Justice S.B. Sinha directed the the US chipmaker to deposit the money to the Department of Telecom. Earlier the Department of Telecom had rejected the Qualcomm’s application to get the broadband licence given the dues pending with its partner Tulip Telecom.
