President Ram Nath Kovind on March 9, 2019 launched the Pulse Polio programme 2019 by administering polio drops to children less than five years old at the Rahstrapati Bhawan. The President administered the polio drops on the eve of the National Immunisation Day that is observed on 10 March every year.

2. (d) Gautam Gambhir

The Padma Awards 2019, one of the highest civilian awards of India, were announced on January 25, 2019 on the occasion of Republic Day eve. Gautam Gambhir, Prabhu Deva, and Late Kader Khan are among the Padma Shri awardees this year.

3. (a) Mohammad Shtayyeh

Mohammad Shtayyeh has been named as the new Prime Minister of Palestine by the President of Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas. Shtayyeh, a long time ally of the Abbas, is the member of the central committee of the President’s Fatah party. Shtayyeh replaces Rami Hamdallah, who had been prime minister since 2014.

The Madhya Pradesh government has issued an ordinance increasing reservation quota for the Other Backward Classes to 27 per cent from the current 14 per cent. The ordinance was issued and notified, after it received the assent from the state’s Governor Anandiben Patel on the same day.

Punia, a World Championship silver medallist, overpowered Jordan Oliver of USA 12-3 in the final held on March 10, 2019. He also secured the maximum ranking points from the tournament.
