India on 28 December 2017 successfully test-fired indigenously developed Advanced Air Defence (AAD) supersonic interceptor missile from a test range in Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. This Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) System of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) directly hit the target at an altitude of about 15 kilometre and destroyed it into fragments.

Sumita Misra, a 1990 batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre, was appointed joint secretary in the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (PMEAC) for five years. The PMEAC is mandated to analyse all critical issues, economic or otherwise, referred to it by the prime minister and advising him thereon.

Mukhmeet Singh Bhatia, a 1990 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, was given charge for the post of Joint Secretary in Fifteenth Finance Commission under the Department of Economic Affairs for tenure of five years.

Radha Mohan Singh, the Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, launched Livestock Disease Forewarning –Mobile Application (LDF-Mobile App) in New Delhi. It was developed by ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (ICAR-NIVEDI), Bengaluru.

Veteran singer KS Chitra was selected for prestigious 'Harivarasanam' award 2017, instituted by the Kerala government. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and a plaque. It will be presented to the veteran playback singer on 14 January 2018.

The Parliament on 28 December 2017 gave its approval to the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second (Amendment) Bill, 2017, after Rajya Sabha passed it with a voice vote. The bill mainly seeks to extend the deadline of a law to protect slums, unauthorised colonies and illegal structures in the national capital from penal action for a period of three years.

The three-day long 78th session of the Indian History Congress was inaugurated at the Jadavpur University campus in Kolkata. The Congress will have six sections this time - Ancient India, Medieval India, Modern India, Countries Other than India, Archaeology and Contemporary India. The main aim behind holding the session is to promote and encourage the scientific study of Indian History.

The government of Delhi has launched a mobile app that would connect about 16,000 members of School Management Committees (SMCs). The app is aimed at helping the schools, parents and students in better coordination and result-oriented performance.
11. (d) Liberia
Ex-football superstar George Weah has been announced as the winner of Liberia's presidential run-off, beating Vice President Joseph Boakai in the first democratic transfer of power in decades following two devastating civil wars. Weah is set to replace incumbent Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who took over at the helm of Africa's oldest republic in 2006.
12. (d) Mumbai
The Association of Indian Football Coaches (AIFC) was launched at the Mumbai Football Arena, Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai on 27 December 2017. The association is not a union for the coaches, but it will help the coaches to be better equipped to train and nurture talent through regular seminars, workshops and courses. The current aim of the association is to develop 65,000 coaches in the next five years.
