The Union Cabinet has decided to increase Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Rabi crops. Official notification has also been issued in this regard.
The decision was made to guarantee farmers a higher revenue and to encourage the growth of important crops during the Rabi season. The goal of the updated MSP rates is to provide farmers with a fair price for their produce.
New MSP Rate of Wheat
According to sources, the MSP for wheat, a crucial Rabi crop, has increased by Rs 150 per quintal. This results in a price increase from Rs 2,275 to Rs 2,425 per quintal for the current season.
This boost is anticipated to help farmers, especially in northern India where wheat is the main crop. The government wants to help wheat farmers by making sure they get paid more for their grain, covering a portion of their input expenses, and offering some protection against changes in the market.
Mustard MSP Rate Increased
The minimum price per quintal (MSP) for mustard has increased by Rs 300, from Rs 5,650 to Rs 5,950. In areas like Rajasthan, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, mustard is a commonly produced oilseed crop that is significant to both farmers and consumers. It is anticipated that the increased MSP for mustard will boost farmer profits and promote increased mustard farming, which is essential for India's supply of edible oil.
Increased MSP Rates of Chana
The MSP for Chana has increased by Rs 210, making the new rate Rs 5,650 per quintal. The government hopes to stimulate greater production of pulses with this hike, as they are a significant source of protein in the Indian diet. The increase in MSP is likely to aid farmers who grow chana, especially in areas like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, by covering their input costs and yielding higher returns.
