About Asthma
Asthma is a common chronic inflammatory long-term disease of the lungs which causes breathing problems by narrowing the airways. Symptoms of asthma include breathlessness, coughing, wheezing, and feeling of tightness in the chest and shortness of breath.
Asthma cannot be cured but the symptoms can be controlled enabling people with asthma to live full lives.
Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA)
The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) was launched in 1993 in collaboration with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, USA, and the World Health Organization. It works with health care professionals and public health officials around the world to reduce asthma prevalence, morbidity, and mortality.
