10 April: World Homoeopathy Day

World Homoeopathy Day was observed on 10 April 2016 and it was organised by India. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German Physician.

Hahnemann discovered the principles of Homeopathy two centuries ago and developed it as a gentle healing system of medicine.

The day is observed by the Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis (LMHI), the international professional body of Homeopaths and every year it designates a country to host the day.

During this day, the Homoeopathic fraternity organizes various symposia, road shows, medical camps and conferences and memorial events to popularize the strength of Homoeopathy.

International Convention on Homeopathy
In 2016, to mark the day a two-day International Convention on Homeopathy was organised in New Delhi from 9 April to 10 April 2016. The theme was “Integrating Homoeopathy in Health Care”.

The convention was organised in India by Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), an autonomous research organization of Ministry of AYUSH, Union Government and LMHI.

On the occasion Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, also released a commorative stamp and a souvenir on this occasion.

Homoeopathy in India
Homoeopathy in India is recognized and integrated in the National health care delivery system. Union Government has established Ministry to AYUSH to give focused attention for the growth and development of Complementary and Alternative Medicine/Traditional Medicine (CAM/TM).

Further, India has signed Memoranda of Understanding with Sri Lanka, Mexico, Cuba, Nepal, Mauritius and Mongolia.

At present, Homeopathy is practiced in more than 80 countries in different form and is officially recognised as system of medical specialty.
