Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a number of directives on Tuesday in response to incidents of food adulteration, including spitting and mixing urine in food. CM Yogi has once again mandated all restaurants, and eateries to display the name and address of operators, proprietors, and managers.
This happened two months after the Supreme Court halted the implementation of similar orders from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand police forcing restaurants along the Kanwar Yatra route to post the names of the proprietors.
Yogi Gov’s Orders Restaurant Owners to Display Names
As per the newly issued directives, all food establishments must display the names and addresses of the operator, proprietor, manager, and other essential staff members." Following the Chief Minister's high-level meeting on September 24, the administration released a statement stating that the Food Safety and Standards Act should be amended as necessary to ensure compliance in this context.
Restaurants, Hotels, and Dhabas Must Install CCTV
Additionally, Adityanath also issued orders to install CCTV cameras in all restaurants, hotels, and dhabas that serve food. CCTV cameras must surveillance not just the dining areas but also other portions of the business. According to the statement, each operator must make sure that the CCTV footage is secure and that, upon request, the police or local government can access it.
Why Was the Decision Made to Display the Owner’s Name?
There have been reports from all around the country, stating that many incidents of adulterating food items like juice, dal, and roti with human waste, inedible, or dirty substances have been brought to light.
As per the official statement issued, the public's health is seriously threatened by these heinous activities. Such vicious behavior is totally intolerable. Concrete steps must be taken to guarantee food safety and safeguard the general public's health in order to stop such incidents in Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister further mandated that all food centers maintain a certain level of cleanliness. The statement continued, "There is no room for negligence in these practices; it is essential to ensure that all personnel involved in food preparation and serving wear masks and gloves."
