Categories of Padma Award

The Padma Awards are broadly divided into 3 categories-

  1. Padma Vibhushan - Awarded for exceptional service
  2. Padma Bhushan - Awarded for exceptional service of high order.
  3. Padma Shri - Awarded for distinguished service.

The awardees are awarded with a Sanad (certificate) signed by the President and a medallion. Along with these, they are also given a small clone of the medallion which they can use for ceremonial purposes. The names of awardees are also published in the Gazette of India.
