Anvi Hinge is a 9-year old chess prodigy from Pune, India. She became the youngest Woman Candidate Master (WCM) in the world in May 2026. She earned this title by scoring 6.5 points in a tournament in Alicante, Spain, where she breached the 1800 ELo rating points mark. She is now ranked as the number one in the world in the FIDE Under-9 girls division.

How Anvi Hinge Became the World's Youngest WCM?

Anvi Hinge was the youngest Woman Candidate Master (WCM) to cross the 1800 Elo rating mark during a tournament in Alicante, Spain. Before this event, her rating was hovering above 1600. To win the title, she had to make a huge leap of almost 200 points. She won six matches and drew one of the nine matches over nine days, and finished with 6.5 points in nine rounds.

This performance earned her 175 rating points during the event. She became eligible to be called WCM by breaking the 1800 ceiling. She was able to accomplish this even before her tenth birthday. This makes her the youngest WCM title-holder of the world.

Born in 2017, Anvi Hinge lives in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune. Her initial interest in chess was at the age of four and a half years. She observed her elder brother, Aarush, as he played the game. Deepak Hinge, her father who is a software engineer who taught her the fundamental rules of the chess.

She got her formal training at the Tactical Moves Chess Academy in Pune. Her parents were facilitators to her talent. She has a routine of her father reading to her 15 to 20 pages of a book at night. The habit assists her to remain composed and focused in the run-up to major competitions. 

Key Accomplishments and Career History

The rise of Anvi in the chess world has been incredibly rapid. She began with local wins and soon replicated that success to the global arena. Here are some of her achievements in Chess in national and international events.

1. She became the Maharashtra Under-7 State Champion in the year 2024. She was also a third-place finisher in the National School Chess Championship.

2. She got a silver medal in the Under-8 category at the FIDE World Cadet Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships in Greece in April 2025.

3. Won Two Golds and four silver medals at the Western Asian Youth Chess Championships in Tajikistan, in June 2025.

4. She was the silver medalist in the Under-8 category at the Commonwealth Championship in Malaysia in November 2025.

5. She became the World No. 1 in the FIDE Under-9 girls category and won the WCM title in Spain in May 2026.

Professional Coaching and Mentorship

Anvi is coached by some of the best players in Indian chess. Her mentors include Grandmaster (GM) Praveen Thipsay and FIDE Master (FM) Siddhant Gaikwad. She is also part of the Chola Chess Academy.

The Chola Chess Academy was founded by Dronacharya Awardee RB Ramesh. This academy is a mentorship program that offers mentorship to the most promising young talents in India. Anvi also receives lessons from grandmasters like Kidambi Sundararajan and Debashis Das. She has been trained to solve more than 70 puzzles daily and to analyze strategic positions.

Global Chess Stars as inspiration

Anvi Hinge is inspired by such world-class players as Viswanathan Anand and D. Gukesh. She had a chance to meet them when she attended the Global Chess League in Mumbai. Her father said that after witnessing their humility and skill, she changed her mind. 

Since this meeting, she has been working towards achieving the top position in the sport. She aims to become a Grandmaster in the future.
