Why Grover Linked Infrastructure to Foreign University Trend
Ashneer Grover shared his views on X on wednesday. He wrote that the parents who can afford it send their bright children to foreign universities. He said safety and quality of life come first. Grover argued that many families choose foreign universities not just for better academics. They also worry about safety and poor living conditions in India. This is why the overseas education trend keeps growing. Grover said at least two billion dollars or twenty thousand crore rupees is needed to make DU world class.
The Building Collapse and the Debate on X
The debate grew stronger after a residential building collapsed in Satya Niketan. Satya Niketan is a popular student hub near the South Campus. Several students had to leave their rooms and find new places to stay. Parents and students have raised alarms over the state of off-campus housing near the north and south campuses. Recent reports documented overcrowded paying guest rooms, charging high rents. These rooms lacked basic amenities like proper ventilation and sanitation. They also lacked safety measures. Grover’s post drew many reactions on X. One user said basic services should come first before talking about world class status. Another user said DU’s infrastructure does not even meet basic engineering standards. A third person who is a DU alumnus said seat competition has become so tough that many students look at private or overseas colleges. Not everyone agreed that money alone would fix the problem. One user said all Indian universities have crumbling infrastructure and the real issue is corruption is not funding. The message is clear. Students need safe and decent places to live and the authorities must act before things get worse.
