Haryana Revised Curriculum: Haryana government schools have made it compulsory for students above class 6 to read value education curriculum. As per recent updates, students will be taking life lessons from Bhagavad Gita, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, APJ Abdul Kalam Azad, Buddha, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Sarojini Naidu and Eklavya.
Previously, value addition subjects were optional and it was easy for students to skip them. However, now students can not ignore the state education department’s ‘Adarash Jewan Mulye’ books and they will have to go through the revised text to be able to answer 10-mark questions.
The schools will be receiving 3 books - one each for classes 6th to 7th, 9th to 10th, and 11th to 12th free from December 18 to 22.
Haryana Curriculum Revises as per NEP 2020, NCFSE
The Haryana government initially formed a 7 member committee led by the State Council of Educational Research and Training, SCERT director for refitting value education in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) and National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE).
An official working on new books said, "The committee decided to include verses from the Bhagavadgita for their inspirational value in building moral character. The sacred text can teach us fearlessness, simplicity, discipline, etiquette, dedication, focus, hard work, respect for nature, and the keys to success."
The Class 9th and 10th book includes the stories of Shivaji, Buddha, Sister Nivedita (Irish teacher, disciple of Swami Vivekananda), Ekalavya (from the Mahabharata), and Maitreyi (Indian philosopher of the later Vedic period in ancient India, referred in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad as wife of the Vedic sage Yajnavalkya).
