ICAI CA 2020: Announcement for students undergoing CA Articleship Training

ICAI has released a statement saying that the period of absence due to the lockdown for students undergoing article training will not be counted as leave.

icaiICAI CA 2020: On Thursday, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India released a statement saying that the period of absence due to the country-wide lockdown in the students’ CA Article training period will not be considered as leave and as such no deductions will be made. The important announcement was made by the Body on its official website. The CCM of ICAI, in response to a tweet by a student replied that the CA 2020 exam dates being circulated in the social media are fake.

In the detailed official notification issued by the ICAI on its official website, it said that students who have already registered for their article training but are not able to attend the same, due to the lockdown in the country for the prevention of COVID-19 pandemic will not be considered as taking leaves. As such, no leaves will be deducted and the students will be considered as being on articleship training for the period.

The notice further said that such students who are appearing for their ICAI CA May 2020 exams or later need not worry on this count for loss of any period not served during the aforesaid lockdown. The statement also read that ICAI has been watching the situation as a result of the spread of the Novel Coronavirus and the present situation arising due to the lockdown. The institute said that the lockdown has resulted in the closing of offices and bare minimum articleship training work made possible through online means.

The official notification also read that in order to ease the situation on both ends concerns related to timing and manner of payment of the stipend in the CA Articleship training in the intervening period due to the lockdown can be decided mutually between the article assistant and the principal.
