TN NEET Counselling 2020: On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami said that over 400 students from Government schools can get seats in medical college under the 7.5% reservation provided by the state. The Chief Minister that the quota was created as he was faltered by the plight of such students unable to pursue their dream of medical education. In the past years, only 6 students from Government schools had gotten admission to Tamil Nadu medical colleges.
The 7.5% Quota - Seat Distribution
The students from Government schools will get about 405 seats - 313 MBBS and 92 BDS seats under the reservation. This is a steep rise from the mere 6 seats in the past for about 3,44,488 students from 3,054 government schools which constitutes about 41% of the student population of about 8.41 lakh students in Class 12.
The Chief Minister’s Statement
Under the newly introduced 7.5% reservation for the students who qualified the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, students from government school students get 405 seats in the introductory 2020-21 academic year at the TN NEET 2020 Counselling, said the CM. The Chief Minister also gave away orders to students who were beneficiaries of the new quota.
CM Palaniswami also claimed credit for his government in transforming the lives of the students from government schools as this new quota will facilitate their admissions in medical colleges through the 7.5?% reservation. The Chief Minister said that he too was a student of a government school and realised the plight of the students and thus, decided to improve their prospects in pursuing higher education, especially in the medical field.

The Chief Minister also announced post-matric scholarship and education assistance to the students of government schools, including those run by municipalities and corporations, panchayats, welfare schools for AdiDravidar and tribals, etc.
