Various Career Avenues arise after the completion of 12th Std. They include professional courses which help in getting a job after completion of the relevant course as well as the academic courses. Students are currently preferring  those professional courses which help in getting immediate employment after completing the course.IT related courses are most popular among them. According to the National Association of Software and Services Companies(NASSCOM) and Mcnzee Indian software industry is growing @ 25 percent annually. According to this study the rate of growth in IT sector is going to remain vibrant over the next five years.  It is estimated that the country could have an income of 600 million Dollars by 2010.
The demand in IT sector for trained hands is very high and supply is inadequate. Despite mushrooming of software and hardware training centres and colleges demand remains unmet. Consider the current rate of growth in IT sector, India would need 23 lack IT and BPO experts by the year 2010. But the current rate of annual availability of trained manpower still leaves a gap of almost 5 lack. These data show that the young people can definitely be  benefitted if they are able to complete any course related to computer software or hardware networking to fulfill their dream.
The entry in this sector can be sought after the completion of a one and a half or two year long job oriented course (especially related to hardware networking) after passing out the 12th Std. examination. These courses are available in almost every town and city.

Opportunities
IT world offers all kinds of work. Every computer runs with the help of a combination of software. And software engineers and programmers produce and develop the software. Their main vocation is to develop software in different languages. There are basically two kinds of software-Application software and the Systems software. Various programming languages are prepared with the help of them and those are used by different companies of the world. Regular upgrading of knowledge is necessary to develop software. Expertise in the main programming languages like the C, C++, JAVA and Visual Basic is also necessary. Following are some of the attractive opportunities after completion of a course in Software or IT:

• System Analyst : System Analyst prepares a scheme to develop a computer. If anybody is interested in taking up the career of a System Analyst then he should have the knowledge of all kinds of softwares  and the hardware and should also strive to update the same regularly. System analysts are skilled to develop a computer on demand in accordance with the business needs of customers.
• System Administrator : System administrator’s main function is to provide connectivity and internet facility. Networking is very important in the IT sector. It connects two or more computers through (LAN, VAN, MAN ) and the data of the networked computers can be checked and transferred from any of the computers attached to the chain. Networking facilitates smooth functioning of the Bank ATMs, Railway reservation, Newspapers and the Internet. It has led to a system administrator’s demand in every institution, whether large or small. Although the professionals in this field are required to not only take care of the system security but also the network security. Career opportunities in this field are also available as a CAD Specialist, System Architect, Visual Designer, HTML Programmer, Domain Specialist, Information security Expert, Integration Specialist, Communication Engineer, Semiconductor Specialist etc..
• Data Base : The data is stored in such a manner in the data base that it could be easily retrieved and updated according to circumstances. Data is very important for every company. This has created huge demand for Data Base Professionals.
• Hardware : Hardware is as necessary for a computer as the software. Hardware means entire machinery in a computer. It includes the CPU, Mother Board, Hard Disk and all other wares. No software can be loaded in a computer unless equipped with these equipments. Hardware engineers bear the responsibility of assembling a computer and also to repair or replace defective parts in it. Demand for hardware professionals who are expert in maintaining computers, is constantly increasing due to proliferation of computers. After getting associated with hardware there arise ample opportunities for working in computer manufacturing, research and development etc.

Course
One can choose the Hardware or Software field according to his/her capability, taste, qualification and the need. But a career in software requires higher qualification whereas hardware requires classes for only one and a half or two years and then practical training is sufficient to get a job. Courses for both the branches are as follows:

Graduate Level course: Main courses at this level are: BTech, BCA, B.Sc. etc. BTech(IT, CS etc.) is a four year course which is available in IIT and other engineering colleges. The candidate has to attempt an entrance exam i.e. IITJEE, AIEEE after passing out the 12th Std. (PCM) to get admission in this branch. Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) and B.Sc. (IT or Computer Science) are three year course and are available in various colleges and the Universities. The most striking feature of these courses is that while studying in all the above mentioned courses, job selections are undertaken by most of the companies at the campus in the final year and then they are trained according to their internal atmosphere and work culture. Companies offer an initial annual package of minimum Rs. 3.5 lack.

Post Graduate Course : MTech and MCA are full time courses. These courses are designed by  IT Experts in accordance with industry needs. Finest details of computer related concepts and Information Technology are explained. In the MCA programme C, C++, JAVA language, technical topics i.e. computer design, theory of computing, artificial intelligence, graphics, animation etc. are taught. The students should make it a point to check while taking admission in the BCA or MCA that the concerned institute is recognized by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) . A job worth Rs. 25000/= to Rs. 30000/= per month awaits the students after they complete their course.

Other High level courses :  MPhil - PHD in the IT or Computer Science can be pursued to get associated with computer training or teaching. Research is also very promising option in the IT sector. Large software companies keep on doing research to upgrade technology and for that they need highly efficient people.

Hardware Networking Course : Due to the presence of a personal computer in almost every office the demand for hardware-networking experts is increasing at a fast pace. This course is available in both the government as well as the private institutions. Training for assembling and repairing a computer and also to replace or repair the parts is provided under these courses. Earlier Card level training was provided but now advance technique based chip level training is being given. This is a unique technique in the manner that earlier in the card level technique weard out parts were replaced but now in the chip level technique those part can be repaired and reused. It saves both the time and money. It is important in this context to find out if the latest chip based technique is being taught or the obsolete card level technique is being taught because all the companies are seeking chip level hardware engineers. New and enhanced technique in IT sector replaces the old one very quickly so candidates must choose an institute where training is based on SAN, NASS, DASS, D2D, data protector, etc. latest technology. Computer manufacturing companies i.e. Dell, HCL, Apple etc.. regularly recruit hardware engineers. In all the large institutions minimum 25 to 100 hardware and networking expert engineers are recruited on a salary varying from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 40,000 per month.
