T. S Eliot once said that Every moment is a fresh beginning and this couldn’t have been truer- 7 September, 1993 saw the inception of a visionary dream- the dream to provide equal and quality Higher Educational Opportunities for the aspiring youth of the erstwhile small town of Dehradun, which till then was lost and neglected in the myriad of Uttar Pradesh. Prof Dr Kamal Ghanshala, who is now reckoned as one of the Stalwarts of the education domain, promoting education in the true sense in India, saw the Graphic Era emerge from the humble Graphic Era Computer Centre to encompass two Universities spanning three campuses in the Himalayan State of Uttarakhand in India.
Conceived in 1993 as the Graphic Era Computer Centre, it soon transformed itself to form the Graphic Era Institute of Technology in 1998 with the commencement of courses in BCA and BMIT- from a humble start of 2 courses in GEIT, Graphic Era currently offers over 100 professional and technical courses in various disciplines ranging from Engineering & Technology, Computer Applications, Management Studies and Commerce, to more exclusive domains such as Architecture and Planning, Humanities, Fashion and Fine Arts, Law, Food Technology, and Agriculture Sciences & Forestry.
The growth of Graphic Era seems almost meteoric- The Graphic Era Educational Society currently encompasses two Universities, namely Graphic Era University and Graphic Era Hill University. Graphic Era University is currently the ONLY University in the state to have been awarded both the NAAC Grade A with the Highest Grade score of 3.23/4 among the 38 Private Deemed Universities in 2015, and placed in the Top 150 Rank Bands of the NIRF- and not only does GEU enjoy national accolades but has also received international recognition for its quality in education and innovation; 2016 saw GEU being conferred theESQR’s Quality Choice Prize 2016, at Berlin in Germany, andthe International Quality Summit Award in the Gold Category at the BIDQuality Convention in New York; and with 2014 being earmarked as the year GEU was conferred the Best Regional University by the Europe Business Assembly. Graphic Era University was also awarded the "Leading Private University" at the Icons of Learning 2016 Conclave, by BERG Singapore.
Graphic Era Hill University, on the other hand with campuses in Dehradun and Bhimtal (Nainital), was established in 2011 under the aegis of the Graphic Era Educational Society approved by the Uttarakhand legislature to offer a unique advantage to aspiring engineers from the far flung hilly terrains of Uttarakhand- a 25% tuition fee waiver to students having an Uttarakhand Domicile: a commendable act indeed towards promoting education in the true sense. What seems noteworthy is that Graphic Era Hill University commenced operations within a short span of 2 months since its inception!
The excellence that Graphic Era has achieved on a Global Scale may directly be attributed to its state of the art Infrastructure as well as its illustrious list of faculty resources from every corner of the globe. Graphic Era’ focus on achieving Quality in Engineering can be gauged via its various industry aligned associations- As the ONLY University in the subcontinent of India currently to have been associated with TATA Technologies in the establishment of Centre of Excellence Partner Labs in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering (Internet of Things), Graphic Era also boasts of association with Industry giants such as Salesforce, Oracle and Microsoft which enables students to stay connected with the Industry giving them a never before seen advantage in terms of its Employability Quotient.
They say the greatest of journeys start with the smallest of steps- and it has been a brave journey indeed undertaken by Graphic Era. So here’s to the next 25 years of Quality, Excellence, Pride- here’s to the next 25 years of transforming dreams into Reality!
