GMAT Full Form: The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) conducts the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) to select the most suitable students for management programs such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA). GMAT is a computer adaptive test (CAT) intended to assess certain quantitative, verbal, and data literacy skills for use in admission to a graduate management program. Over 7,700 programs at approximately 2,400 graduate business schools worldwide accept the GMAT as part of their selection criteria.

Eligibility Criteria for GMAT Exam 2025

Bachelor’s Degree of minimum three years duration or equivalent in any discipline. There is no minimum or maximum academic percentage required to register for GMAT.

Number of Attempts for GMAT

A candidate can take the GMAT Focus Edition exam up to five times within a 12-month period, with a minimum 16-day gap between each attempt. The maximum number of lifetime attempts allowed is eight. If a candidate achieves a perfect score of 800, he/she must wait five years before retaking the test, as 800 is the highest possible score. Additionally, candidates are required to register again each time they attempt the GMAT.
