Institute of Banking and Personnel Selection (IBPS) is ready to organize the Common Written Examination (CWE) for appointing eligible candidates to the post of Probationary Officers. IBPS PO Exam 2013 is planned to be conducted on 19 October 2013, 20 October 2013, 26 October 2013, and 27 October 2013. The written examination comprises of 5 different sections that are General Awareness, English Language, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and Computer Knowledge.

The Reasoning Section of IBPS PO Exam contains 40 questions from topics like Classification, Analogy, Direction Sense, Blood Relation Coding Decoding, etc. Here, Jagranjosh provides study material on every topic to clear doubts of the aspirants so that they can prepare well for the upcoming IBPS PO Exam 2013.

Classification

‘Classification’ means to list the items of a given group on the basis of certain quality and then choose the stranger out. It is one of the important chapters of General Mental Ability Segment of Reasoning. In these types of Questions the candidate is required to choose one item which does not fit into the group of similar items.

Types of Classification:

Type I: Selecting the odd word

Example:  Select the word which is least like the other words in the group.

(a) Dagger
(b) Hammer
(c) Knife
(d) Sword
(e) Blade

Solution: (b) Here all are sharp edged and having a cutting action except Hammer.

Type II: Selecting the odd pair of words

(a) Oil: Lamp
(b) Power: Machine
(c) Oxygen: Life
(d) Water: Tap

Solution: (d) clearly in all the pairs second requires the first to function

Direction (Q. 1-2): Four of the following five are alike in a certain way and so form a group. Which is the one that does not belong to that group?
1. 

1) Repair
2) Mend
3) Correct
4) Rectify
5) Trouble
Answer: (5) Except Trouble, all others are synonyms.
2. 
1) Employed
2) Trained
3) Hired
4) Appointed
5) Commissioned

Answer: (2) Except Trained, all others are same in meaning.
