About:
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a public university for scientific research and higher education located in Bengaluru. The institute was established in 1909. It acquired the status of a Deemed University in 1958. IISc was established by private bodies to conduct core research with focus on advancing the scientific capabilities of the country.    

Courses offered:
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has opened its portals to undergraduate students by introducing a four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Programme in 2011. The programme is designed as a blend of core science and interdisciplinary topics that will serve as a launching pad for attractive career opportunities in academia and industry. The four-year BS Programme is organized into eight semesters. The final semester is devoted exclusively to a research project. The following major disciplines are available in the BS Programme:

  1. Biology
  2. Chemistry
  3. Environmental Science
  4. Materials
  5. Mathematics
  6. Physics


Eligibility:
Candidates who have completed their II PUC / 12th Standard in 2013 and those who are expecting to complete their II PUC / 12th Standard in 2014 are eligible to apply. The candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects during their II PUC / 12th Standard. Candidates who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, etc., in addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also eligible to apply. The candidates must have secured a first class or 60% or equivalent grade (relaxed to pass class for SC/ST candidates) in the II PUC / 12th Standard examination.

Admission Procedure:
The Admission in IISc is given based on the National Entrance Examinations. The student must appear and qualified on any one of the following Entrance Examinations.
1. KVPY:
KVPY-SA [appeared in 2012, and selected for the Fellowship or Mentorship]
KVPY-SB [appeared in 2013, and selected for the Fellowship]
KVPY-SX [appeared in 2013, and selected for the Fellowship]
KVPY Fellows selected through the Empowerment Initiative for SC/ST candidates
2. IIT-JEE-Main: Appearing in 2014 and securing a minimum of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PH).
3. IIT-JEE-Advanced: Appearing in 2014 and securing a minimum of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PH).

Fee Structure:

  • Annual Tuition Fee Rs. 10000
  • Gymkhana Fee Rs. 720
  • Other Academic Fee Rs. 2380
  • Students Emergency Fund Rs. 200
  • Refundable Statutory Deposit Rs. 2000 (to be paid in the first year only)
  • Refundable Library Deposit Rs. 2000 (to be paid in the first year only)
