University of Madras which is conferred the status of ‘Universities with Potential for Excellence’ by University Grants Commission, is soon to get ‘University of Excellence’ (UoE) status for its excellence in the field of research and development.
University of Madras is one of the 15 universities that were conferred with the status earlier by the UGC. In a recent statement issued by UGC Vice Chairman, H Devraj at the 157 convocation of University of Madras, he made it clear that those universities having UPE status are eligible for funding to augment their academic and infrastructure and also at to evolve innovative approaches towards the teaching-learning process. The UGC has lent a support of 100 crore as grant which would be given to the university in two phases under the UoE scheme for the overall development of the university and its academic purposes.
