On Wednesday, Governor JB Patnaik has appointed Mridul Hazarika as the new vice-chancellor of Gauhati University. Recently, Hazarika is working at the Science Foundation for Tribal and Rural Resource Development in Bhubaneswar as the chief scientist. Alongside he also work at School of Applied Sciences, Cranfield University, UK as visiting lecturer and also appointed to various important positions including the director of Tea Research Association Tocklai Experimental Station.
Several awards involving National Merit Scholarship in 1967, Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Ekta Samman in 2012 and Mahatma Gandhi Samman (Gold Medal) in 2012 has been awarded to him. Hazarika hails from Nasoni Chuk, Club Road, Jorhat.
