The National Institute of Technology (also known as NIT, Jamshedpur or NITJSR) has obtained 78th rank in the list of the top engineering institutes in India released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Earlier, NITJSR was known as Regional Institute of Technology. It was the first among 8 Regional Engineering Colleges and the only REC in India which was named as RIT (Regional Institute of Technology). In 2002, RIT was converted to National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur by the Government of India. The infrastructure of NIT, Jamshedpur is better than many other colleges.
