Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 71,000 appointment letters to newly recruited candidates in various central government departments during a Rozgar Mela held on Monday. Addressing the event virtually, PM Modi highlighted the government’s achievement of creating a significant employment record by providing permanent government jobs to nearly 10 lakh candidates over the last 18 months.
“In the past 1 to 1.5 years, our government has given permanent jobs to almost 10 lakh youths. This is an unprecedented milestone, as no previous government has achieved such a scale of recruitment,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) emphasised that the Rozgar Mela reflects the government’s commitment to generating employment opportunities and empowering youth.
The newly appointed candidates, selected from across the country, will join various ministries. These include the Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Posts, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the Department of Financial Services, according to a PIB release.
During the event, Union Minister Jitendra Singh noted that 29% of the 71,000 recruits belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, while Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes accounted for 15.8% and 9.6%, respectively. He further highlighted a 27% increase in the recruitment of candidates from backward classes under the Modi government compared to the previous UPA regime.
