Indian Institute of Technology - Bombay (IIT-B) continues to be the preferred choice of IIT among the JEE-Advance qualifiers, while IIT in Delhi and Chennai stood at second and Third.
Surprisingly, out of top 100 rankers of JEE-Advanced 2014, majority selected IIT-Bombay on top in their preference list. The IIT-Bombay is clearly the first choice of the brilliant young brains in the country.
Te factors for majority of inclination towards IIT in Bombay may be due to geography, placement record, short-term courses on offer and diverse B.tech stream catalogue.
The large numbers of qualifiers preferred computer science in IIT-B as their first choice. Some 58 of the top 100 ranking students were offered seats in Computer science in IIT-Bombay during first round,, while 36 received their choice of stream in IIT-Delhi.
Thirty-six students were allotted seats at IIT-D, as opposed to last year's 29.
As told by IIT-B director Devang Khakhar, 44 qualifiers of the top 50 rankers only chose the IIT-Bombay while others may have preferred stream over location.
The only female falling in top 10 ranks in JEE-Advance chose to with Computer Science stream in IIT-Delhi.
At both IIT-B and IIT-D, Computer Science was the first choice of stream among the top 100 rankers, followed by electrical engineering.
Only one signed up for a dual degree programme in computer science at IIT-D and the rest chose the flagship BTech programmes at IIT-B, IIT-D, IIT-M and IIT-K.
Astonishingly, this year, the oldest, IIT-Kharagpur did not see any top 100 rankers opting for this location. Neither IIT Roorkee nor IIT-Guwahati received the student from top 100 slots.
