Engineering aspirants believe that getting in IITs is the door to success. Yes it is. But seats in IITs are limited. Some students in spite of having great mind and hard work cannot make to IITs. These students think that all their hard work has gone waste and their career has been destroyed. With such thoughts in their mind they get depressed.

In this article, we are going to tell you about some people who were not from IITs and some of them were not even from engineering background who proved to be great technology entrepreneurs. The reason was not their college but their desire to follow their dreams.

Founder of Book My Show and the alumni of Sydenham Institute of Management, Mumbai University, officially started this start-up in 2007. The purpose behind this start-up was to bring the concept of booking online movie ticket to India. And soon as it expanded, it started offering online ticketing solutions for theatres, events, concerts and sports too.

Ashish Hemrajani is the person who never gives up; instead he gets up and moves ahead in pursuit of loftier goals. Recently he logged out from his facebook account permanently because he believes that social media has automated us and our actions are controlled by the notifications on our phones.

The founder of OYO Rooms, Ritesh Agarawal, is a college dropout who once wanted to appear for Engineering Entrance Examinations. But his passion for his dreams led him to different path. Instead he started his own company in the field which he was passionate. But the success did not come easy to this man, in spite of a well to do family he sold sim cards to realize his dreams.

The idea came to his mind when he was unable to visit his family during the Diwali season in the year 2005 due to lack of an available bus ticket. But now with redBus he provide access to nearly 40,000 travel agents across the country and booking a ticket for Bus has become very easy.

He was not even an engineering aspirant and graduated simply with Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He also took admission in Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies for MBA degree but dropped the course. He founded FreeCharge in 2010, along with Sandeep Tandon. In April 2015, FreeCharge was acquired by Snapdeal and Shah was appointed as the new CEO of the company.

One of the co-founders of e-commerce logistic company- Delhivery, Sahil Barua is the alumni of National Institute of Technology, Karnataka. He founded Delhivery in May 2011. At that time there was no online or physical model built for delivery network. And this caused them to think about creating a network. In no time the idea was ready and the only thing they were lagging behind was, human resources i.e. delivery boys. Fortunately, they come across a restaurant which was shutting down and was looking to relocate his staff. They hired them all without much of thought. And from there the story of Delhivery started.

He is a dropout from Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Engineering. He left the computer science course which he was pursuing in LBS in 5th semester. His primary company was Innoz Technologies which was behind ‘SmsGyan’ handing internet’s knowledge to people via texts. His latest venture is Lookup, of which he is CEO, is a local commerce messaging app which lets users chat with local businesses and shops.

From the above success stories we conclude that it is not your college that matters the most but it is your guts to follow your passion. All the entrepreneurs whose success stories you read in this article are not from IITs and most of them are not even from NITs but they have one thing common in them i.e. to follow their passions. They took risk and even dropped out from college to follow their dream. We do not suggest you to drop your college instead we want to point out the fact that following your dreams and passion leads to your success. If you did not get into IITs then the world does not end and there are many career opportunities apart from IITs as well.
