Arif Ahsan has secured 74th Rank in UPSC Civil Services IAS Exam 2016 (CSE 2016). He is from Gaya, Bihar and he has done B. tech from Jamia Millia Islamia in. His father is a school teacher and his mother is a housemaker. He gives credit for his success to his parents. He had a passion to become an IAS since his school days where his teachers praised him to opt out the civil services in his career. Later, during his Engineering degree from Jamia Millia Islamia where he finally decided to join civil services so that he can serve large of people in the society.
In the beginning of his IAS preparation, he did the self study but later he joined the Centre for Coaching and Career Planning run by Jamia Millia Islamia University New Delhi. The Centre for Coaching and Career Planning helped him a lot in his studies and guide well towards the success in the coveted IAS Exam in the country.

According to him, the ideal time to start IAS preparation is from the last year of Bachelor degree of an aspiring candidate.
