Allahabad High Court ordered CBI probe into alleged misappropriation of MGNREGA funds

High Court of Uttar Pradesh directed CBI to probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds in seven districts for MGNREGA Scheme from the centre.

Allahabad High Court of Uttar Pradesh on 31 January 2014 directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds in seven districts that was provided for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) from the centre.

The seven districts for which the court has asked to verify are
• Balrampur
• Gonda
• Mahoba
• Sonebhadra
• Sant Kabir Nagar
• Mirzapur
• Kushinagar

The Court has directed the CBI to submit status report to this Court at the interval of every three months. This order was passed by the division bench of Lucknow Court after hearing a Public Interest Litigation PIL filed. The bench court bench that passed the order was consisted of Justice DP Singh and Justice Ashok Pal Singh.

The court in its order has also directed the CBI to hold a preliminary enquiry to other districts of the state for the aforesaid three years relating to abuse, misappropriation and misuse of the fund that was provided to the state under the centrally financed MGNERGA scheme.
