AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal introduced the Dr. Ambedkar Samman Scholarship, a program intended to provide financial aid to Delhi-based Dalit students who want to attend prestigious international colleges.
In an attempt to pay tribute to Babasaheb Ambedkar and as a forceful response to the BJP's alleged contempt for Ambedkar, the announcement was made ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. Dalit students accepted into prestigious international universities would have all of their educational, travel, and housing expenses covered by the Delhi government.
Who is Eligible for Delhi’s Ambedkar Scholarship?
Delhi-based Dalit students who are accepted into prestigious universities overseas are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Children of government employees are also covered by the program.
Full Expenses Given by the Delhi Govt
The government will cover all of the student's living expenses, travel expenses, and tuition under this scheme.
In Response to BJP’s Remark on Ambedkar
In light of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's divisive remarks in Parliament, the plan is framed as a direct response to the BJP's statements regarding Ambedkar.
Delhi Spends 25% Budget on Education
Delhi CM Atishi highlighted that Kejriwal consistently allocates 25% of Delhi's budget to education, showing the government’s commitment to supporting talented Dalit students pursuing higher studies abroad. Kejriwal also emphasized that this scholarship reflects Ambedkar's vision of education as a path to self-empowerment.
