'Laapataa Ladies' has been selected as India's official entry for Oscars 2025. The announcement was made on September 23 by the jury of the Film Federation of India (FFI), which selects the Indian film in the Best International Feature Film category every year. 'Missing Ladies' is India's official entry for the Oscars 2025 in the Best Foreign Film category.

For the first time in history, Indian men's and women's team won gold medal in Chess Olympiad. GM Gukesh Domraju, Arjun Erigaisi and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu won to secure medals for India at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad. The women also displayed excellent performance and won the gold for the first time.

Sri Lankan leftist leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has won the presidential election at the age of 55. Dissanayake is the leader of the National People's Power (NPP) alliance. Under Sri Lankan electoral law, any candidate needs more than 50% of the vote to win. About two years ago, there were massive public movements in Sri Lanka due to the economic crisis, after which the political environment in the country was unstable.

Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Alok Ranjan was recently appointed the chief of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). Ranjan, a 1991 batch IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the director till June 30, 2026. He will replace his batchmate Vivek Gogia. Meanwhile, IPS Amit Garg was appointed the head of Hyderabad-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA).

One of the biggest awards of Hindi cinema, International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) will be organized in Rajasthan's capital Jaipur next year. The MoU was signed between Rajasthan Tourism Department and IIFA in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari.
