The Delhi government on 25 October 2010 decided to release an additional amount of 35 crore rupees to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for controlling Dengue and Malaria. The Delhi government sanctioned the amount to the MCD for strenghtening anti-larval and anti-adult vector measures to control the vector borne disease like dengue, Chikunguniya and Malaria.
The initial budget of Delhi State government to control these diseases in 2010 was Rs.16.70 crore, which was increased by Rs.5 crore before the Commonwealth Games.
The MCD stopped fogging holding the Delhi government responsible for not releasing funds since the Commonwealth Games which ended on 14 October 2010.
Delhi has seen the worst dengue outbreak in the last five years. The total number of Dengue cases in Delhi was estimated around 5,215. Dengue killed eight people in 2010.
