The Indian armed forces released two doctrines on 16 June 2010 to develop greater synergy among the three services— Army, Navy and Air Force and enhance joint fighting capabilities. One doctrine is designed for perception management and psychological operations and the other for air and land operations. The doctrines were formulated by Doctrine Directorate of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) which was constituted after the 1999 Kargil war to bring about synergy among the three services. The Joint Doctrine for Air-Land Operations will be the keystone doctrinal document for employment of military power in a joint operation scenario. Military psychological operations involve a planned process of conveying a message to select target audiences. The operations aimed to promote particular themes that will result in desired attitudes and behaviour which are likely to affect the achievement of political and military objectives.
