The Union Minister of Environment, Prakash Javadekar while virtually chairing the ‘India CEO Forum of Climate Change’ on November 5, 2020, highlighted that climate change is an important issue which needs the attention of the world leaders.
While giving his keynote address, the Union Minister noted that all the countries need to work together in saving the planet and must take needed action on climate change.

During the meeting, he also highlighted India’s corporate world’s initiative of adhering to and declaring their own plans for carbon neutrality. In addition to this, a declaration on climate change was also signed by the industry sector.

Highlighting India’s plans on climate change:
• The Union Environment Minister, Prakash Javadekar while addressing the forum underlined India’s plans on climate change and suggested that the corporate world must propagate their plans and report to the government so that it can be shared further.
• He informed that India has also taken several measures for cutting carbon emission by focusing on renewable energy and increasing the green cover.
• Javadekar also underlined India’s ambitious target of achieving the production of 450 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030.
• He highlighted India’s per capita carbon emission is very low and that the country has contributed very less in comparison to developed nations.
• During the forum, the minister also informed that India has announced Nationally Determined Contribution under Paris Agreement for reducing the carbon emission. Under this, India will be reducing its emission intensity by 35% and will have 100 GW Solar Power and 175 GW renewable energy by 2022.
• He also urged the world leaders to be compliant with the Paris Climate Agreement and asked the developed countries for providing climate-friendly technology at an affordable cost.
Tackling COVID-19 pandemic:
The Union Environment Minister, Prakash Javadekar also underlined India’s efforts in tackling the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic and mentioned that India will show the way to the world in dealing with the virus.
He also informed that India’s economic activity has been returning to normalcy and several economic parameters have also been improving day by day.
