Geospatial Energy Map of India launched - All you need to know!
The GIS-based Energy Map of India will identify and locate all primary and secondary sources of energy along with their transportation/transmission networks to provide a holistic picture of all energy resources of the country.

A Geographic Information System (GIS)-based Energy Map of India was launched by NITI Aayog on October 18, 2021.
The Geospatial Energy Map has been developed by NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and with the support of central government's energy ministries.
Launched today, the #GeospatialEnergyMap is a joint-endeavour of @NITIAayog & @ISRO, aimed at enabling a holistic, comprehensive information system to aid the formulation & evaluation of policies - for an evidence-led energy sector: https://t.co/vkW6CSgCYr pic.twitter.com/yYPqWyEjP2

What is the GIS map?The GIS-based Energy Map of India will provide a holistic picture of all energy resources of the country. This will enable visualisation of energy installations across India including conventional power plants, petroleum refineries, oil and gas wells, coal fields and coal blocks and district-wise data on renewable energy power plants. It will include 27 layers of data from multiple sources.

Objective
The main aim of the map would be to identify and locate all primary and secondary sources of energy along with their transportation/transmission networks to provide a comprehensive view of energy production and distribution in a country.
The map will integrate energy data scattered across multiple organizations and present it in a consolidated and more visually appealing and graphical form.
According to NITI Aayog Vice Chairman, Dr Rajiv Kumar, the Geospatial Energy Map can be a great research instrument. This will add to the bouquet of efforts by NITI Aayog to improve data availability in the energy sector, he said.
