The Union Government of India on 15 June 2011 granted environmental clearance to the 130 MW Kashang hydro power project in Himachal Pradesh. This project is to be set up in Kinnaur district which is funded by the Asian Development Bank.
The first stage of the Kashang hydro power project would be completed by January 2013, while the second and third stages would be commissioned by March 2015.
